Visa Procedure (Tourist & Business):

Visas are processed by the Sri Lanka High Commission in Dhaka for applicants in Bangladesh and by the Department of Immigration & Emigration in Sri Lanka for others. Applicants must submit documents directly or follow online submission instructions provided.

Requirements:

TOURIST VISAS

This section is for holiday travelers visiting Sri Lanka for a short period, engaging in activities like sightseeing, visiting friends and relatives, seeking medical treatment, participating in sports, competitions, and cultural performances. Tourist visas can be obtained through the following methods

·         Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) obtained online at www.eta.gov.lk.

·         In case of difficulty accessing the ETA system, visitors can obtain a visa in person from the Sri Lanka High Commission prior to travel.

·         Bona-fide tourists arriving in Sri Lanka without an ETA reference number can obtain visas upon arrival by paying the relevant ETA processing fee.

Applying online – Tourist visas

Short-term visitors to Sri Lanka must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) through www.eta.gov.lk. The ETA allows a 30-day stay, extendable up to three months by paying the appropriate fee to the Department of Immigration & Emigration.

Requirements:

·         Current passport with a minimum validity of 6 months from the planned date of return.

·         Visiting card (business card).

·         For Business visa applicants: Contact details of the Sri Lankan company you will be engaging with.

Visa fee:  For visa durations of 0-30 days with double entries, the fees are as follows:

·         USD 20 for SAARC passports.

·         USD 35 for all other passports.

Please note that if you do not receive the approval within 2 working days, you can log in to www.eta.gov.lk and check your visa status on the home page. Go to the ETA home page, click on "check status," and enter your acknowledgment or passport number. If the status indicates that your visa has been approved, please print out the confirmation and carry it with you when you travel to Sri Lanka.

Transit visa

Applying For A Tourist Visa At The High Commission

If you encounter any difficulties while applying through the online ETA system, tourists who wish to obtain a Tourist visa from the High Commission have the option to apply for a visa either by post or in person at the High Commission visa counter.

 

Requirements

·         Duly completed Visa application form (available at the downloads section).

·         Two recent passport-sized photographs.

·         Valid passport with at least one unused visa page, along with a photocopy of the photo page. The passport should have a validity of at least six months from the date of departure from Sri Lanka, considering the intended visit.

·         Confirmed return air ticket that indicates the travel itinerary.

·         Bank endorsement of USD 200.

Method of payment:

·         For those applying in person at the High Commission, the visa fees can only be paid in cash, and an official receipt will be issued. Please note that visa fees paid are non-refundable.

·         Visa fee for 0-30 Days with double entries: USD 20 (for SAARC passports), USD 35 (for all other passports).

·         It is important to note that the status of your visa cannot be changed after arrival in Sri Lanka. For example, if you visit Sri Lanka on holiday, you are not allowed to engage in any business, profession, social work, charity, or any form of voluntary work or employment, paid or unpaid, without obtaining prior visas for such purposes.

·         If a visitor wishes to extend their stay in Sri Lanka, they should apply to the Department of Immigration & Emigration at Suhurupaya, Sri Subhuthipura Road, Battaramulla, Sri Lanka before the expiry of their visa.

Business Visa

·         Business travelers planning to visit Sri Lanka for a duration of up to 90 days should obtain a business visa through the Sri Lanka High Commission in Dhaka.

·         In certain circumstances, interviews may be conducted by the High Commission, and applicants may be asked to provide additional documents if necessary.

·         It is important to be aware that the visa fee is non-refundable, regardless of the circumstances.

·          Two recent passport-sized photographs.

·         Valid passport with at least one unused visa page, along with a photocopy of the photo page. The passport should be valid for at least six months from the date of departure from Sri Lanka, considering the intended visit.

·          Return air ticket.

·         An invitation letter from the company/organization in Sri Lanka recommending the issuance of a visa to the applicant.

·          A request letter from the company or organization in Bangladesh recommending the issuance of the visa. The letter should provide details about the applicant's status, nature of business, duration of stay, availability of funds, and details of the party in Sri Lanka with whom the business will be conducted.

Multiple Business Visa

A business organization or NGO in Sri Lanka should directly submit the application for a work/resident visa on behalf of the applicant to the Controller General, Immigration and Emigration (CG, I & E). Once approved, the CG, I & E will authorize the High Commission to issue an entry visa to the applicant.

Visas For Conferences, Seminars, Meetings, And Workshops


Prior approval from the Department of Immigration & Emigration in Sri Lanka is required for visa issuance under this category. Alternatively, applicants can submit their application at least 2 weeks in advance with a letter of invitation from the event organizers, including their contact details in Sri Lanka. The High Commission will proceed with issuing the visa upon receiving approval, provided the required documents are submitted. Gratis visas are only granted to Official/Diplomatic passport holders, based on reciprocity and with prior approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Immigration & Emigration of Sri Lanka.

For Business Visa:
